
The Duke Blue Devils concluded their spring practice with their annual spring game on Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium in front of nearly 5000 fans. The White beat the Blue 24-17 as both senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and redshirt freshman Sean Renfree starred.
The two quarterbacks were sharp and threw for a combined 467 yards on 32-47 without either throwing an interception. Renfree had two touchdown passes.The receiving corp was led by sophomore Donovan Varner who had 6 catches for 116 yards and redshirt sophomore Matt Pridemore who had 5 catches for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The running game was led by the return of senior Ra' quan Boyette who sat out last year with a knee injury and will be a 5th year senior this fall. Boyette had 19 yards on 7 carries. Redshirt freshman Patrick Kurunwune was the biggest hit of the running backs rushing for 66 yards on 16 carries and catching 4 passes for 67 yards.
Ayanga Okpokowuruk has two sacks for 13 yards in losses.Adam Banks had 8 tackles, Matt Daniels had 7 and former quarterback Zach Asack debuted at safety and had 4 tackles.
Coach David Cutcliffe who will begin his second season in the fall overall with his team's spring and deemed them a good team. The Blue Devils will open their season at home against Richmond. Here is the schedule for the fall of 2009.
