Duke prospects abound at TOC

The Duke Blue Devils had several players at the Tournament of Champions this weekend they were interested in besides Kyrie Irving and Ray McCallum. They also have interest in 2010 big man , 7-0 Fab Melo, 2010 forward 6-8 Tarik Black, 2011 forward 6-6 Rodney Hood, 2011 6-1 guard Quinn Cook, and 2011 guard 6-4 Damien Leonard. 

           We were able to watch all of these players and talk to them during the tournament.

Ray McCallum a throw back point guard

Ray McCallum is a 6-1, 165 point guard and that is what he is through and through a pure point guard. Ray now living in Beverly Hills, Michigan and attending Detroit's Country Day school the last year since his father Ray Sr. took the Detroit University job.

                    McCallum led his Team Detroit into playoffs of the Tournament of Champions before losing on Saturday night in the first round. He had 15 points and 6 assists in the game we watched on Saturday morning and he added 16 points and 4 assists later in the day at Cameron.

                    I was able to speak to Ray after his morning game in the Smith Center.

Tournament of Champion starts tonight in the Triangle

              We will be following several Duke targets this weekend starting tonight at venues in Durham and Chapel Hill. The Smith center can host three games at a time and Cameron one, while the adjacent courts at Card and Wilson gyms can handle 3 more.

Duke women dismantle Cal 4-0 to win their first Tennis National Championship

Duke University seniors Melissa Mang and Jessi Robinson earned singles victories within minutes of each other to lead the Blue Devils to a 4-0 sweep of California in the NCAA Women’s Tennis National Championship match. Duke captures its first national title in women’s tennis and 10th overall national trophy in school history.

Duke Men LAX advance to the final four

    The Duke men LAX team advanced to their 3rd consecutive final four and 4th in 5 years as they held off a game UNC bunch 12-11. Duke will join will play Syracuse in the semifinals next Saturday in Foxboro, Massachussetts. All American Ned Crotty had 2 goals and 6 assists in the game.
